Rest for sick parents?

This weekend has been rough for us so far. First I got sick - good old gastroenteritis. I swear my family has come down with no less than 20 different varieties of this nasty but luckily quick illness. Dan was vey helpful earlier in the day, watching the kids so I can rest. Unfortunately that all changed when he got sick too. In the past, we would have had a discussion about who was most sick and the second most sick person would try to hold down the fort with the kids. There was even a time where everyone including the kids were sick. Watching young sick kids while sick is next to impossible. Watching healthy kids while sick is just as challenging. So today we threw in the towel and called in a sitter who is also a teacher at the kid's school so Dan and I can actually rest and ride this out.

It is true that parenting is a full time job without any sick leave. Want sick leave? It will cost ya. For us, it is worth every penny. Our kids are not sick at the moment which is odd, but give them a few hours or days and it will happen (and most likely at 2am). Hopefully by them we'll be back on our feet and rested so we don't have to call in the reserves.
